Calbuco Volcano: Llanquihue National Reserve
1 Day

Route of Parks of Patagonia

Llanquihue´s Reserve is the perfect trail to learn about volcanic eruptions and geological impacts. Last eruption of Calbuco Volcano in 2015 blew its top and the resulting explosion transformed the southern slope of the mountain. Where once stood the winding hiking trails of Llanquihue National Reserve, we now find an open path, result of a lahar flow dues to the sudden melting of a glacier during the eruption. We explore this stunning landscape where new vegetation is already returning, zigzagging between untouched native forest of young Alerces trees that survived several volcanic activities, and the singular geography of old lava flows and remaining of pyroclastic. As we walk up the Calbuco, trees will get bigger and the views of the valley more impressive, perfect place to understand the impact of one of the most active Volcano of South America. We enjoy a picnic in the upper part before returning to our starting point. Hours walking: between 4h and 6h Level: beginner to Moderate

PRICE: 2-3 pers:  $ 75.000 Clp/pers.

4-5 pers:   $ 70.000 Clp/pers.
